DNA Testing FAQs
How is the DNA sample taken?
Samples can be taken either by the individuals themselves in the presence of an independent witness, or if required for legal purposes by a registered sampler (GP, Nurse or Laboratory representative).
The collection process is very simple and non-invasive. Cheek cells (of each individual to be tested) are collected using a large buccal (cotton) swab rubbed gently along the inside of the mouth to remove some of the DNA contain cells. The cotton swabs are then sealed in the corresponding envelopes and sent back to the laboratory for processing, upon completion the results will be analysed and a test report generated.
